I’ve been asked a bunch of times for recommended listening tips. So here’s a collection of great early rock and roll tracks. Many of these are probably more accurately described as “Jump Blues” but is very closely related to Rock and Roll. You can hear how they directly influence the tracks that come later from Elvis and others.
And if you’re teaching your own kids or students, this is a good start to discuss the 12 bar blues. I’ve also tried to limit the objectionable lyrics, but if you hear something that probably is not appropriate for a 7-8 year old, let me know.
